The idea behind our STEAM sessions is to give young people an opportunity to take an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, discovering and developing the links between science, technology, engineering, maths, and this term, introducing art. The young people are usually set a practical challenge during the sessions such as producing a working wind turbine that can lift weight or building a tower from unusual materials. We have also looked into the details of crime scene investigations which included taking fingerprints and looking at cells under a microscope. The young people engage really well with these activities, often working with others to build positive relationships and grow in confidence. This will hopefully help them to understand the importance of STEAM skills and knowledge in all walks of life as well as modern careers.
